YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in Nude in Private 09

Another high-end lipstick product from cult favorite YSL.

If you're taking by the storm of YSL RPC 52 Rosy Coral hype, you might take a look at another YSL lipstick product. In terms of its finish, texture, and not forgotten each unique packaging, YSL has 4 main lipstick line (which can be checked in their official YSL beauty website) :
  • Rouge Pur Couture: The iconic YSL lipstick
  • Rouge Volupté: A satiny and intense color YSL lipstick
  • Rouge Volupté Shine: The glossy version of YSL RV lipstick
  • Kiss and Blush: The dual-function lipstick and creamy blush-on product
According to YSL beauty web, "Introducing Rouge Volupté Shine. Give in to the temptation of dazzling color. Succumb to a unique sensorial experience with extreme comfort and luminous shine.  Hyaluronic acid microspheres help seal in moisture for 8 hours of hydration. Anti-oxidants and emollients help condition and soften lips." In short, I will consider it as the glossy version of Rouge Volupté. (Source)

It is equipped with formula:
  • Hyaluronic Acid Spheres
  • Moisturizing action emollients
  • Softening action
  • Softening action
  • Pomegranate extract
  • Antioxidant action
  • Candellila Resin
  • Protection
  • Mineral Pigments
  • Bright sheer color
Well packed in a luxurious sturdy gold rounded tube with its personalized shade carved in the middle part of tube. So, in case you're wondering which shade belongs to which, then just take a look at the shade in the middle part of tube or take a peek at the bottom of the tube for more precise info. Embellished YSL logo is paved around both RV & RVS tube; but I'm not sure how to differentiate between RV or RVS tube in a single glance. It's retailed at IDR 495.000, with Net Wt 4.5 gr and available throughout YSL beauty counter.

Nude in Private no. 9 is a warm-nude shade with brown-red based color. It has noticeable shimmer in the tube and looks deeper in the bullet. It has a (strong) fruity-mango scent yet will evaporate after applied. However, RVS has weak pigmentation. You need to build up the color to desired amount especially for lighter shade. It's a troublesome for women with pigmented lips (like mine) since it's difficult to fully cover the lips since glossy texture like RVS has weak coverage and slightly transparent.

Furthermore, the different between YSL RV and RVS in terms of its texture is about the finish. RV has more satiny and opaque coverage than RVS, whereas RVS glides smoothly and likely won't create any dry patches or accentuate any lip lines but less even/opaque comparing to RV due to its semi-gloss texture. You can get slightly good color pay-off with RVS but not that opaque nor pigmented result like the other RV series.
Yes, it looks deeper in the tube but not that opaque after applied; a single swipe will give you a twist of color with glossy finish, but for deeper color you might build-up the color. You've been warned.

SWATCH
Nude in Private gives you a warm red-brown based nude shade with glossy finish and often considered as 'versatile nude that looks flattering on every skin-tone'. You won't see any noticeable shimmer upon swatch and the good news, this semi-gloss lipstick has similar finish with Rouge Coco Shine but with heavier texture (imho).

My Verdict?
To say or say nothing at all. I have love and hate relationship with YSL RVS: the pigmentation is so-so (or should I say it weak) and doesn't cover my pigmented lips very well. I had high expectation with the product since the color in the tube looks promisingly deep and expect a good, noticeable color pay-off upon application but turned out disappoint with the finish. Nude in Private washed out my face; it makes me looks pale due to its highly shimmery-glossy texture and it turns out the swatch is lighter than my natural lips color. Without further ado, I might suggest women with pigmented lips to choose either deeper shade or either way more bright-vivid shade to instantly lift up your whole appearance since RVS pigmentation is slightly weak due to its glossy-shimmery texture. Here is another review from Sabrina (who has similar pigmented lips like mine) for comparison. However, the new improved version of RVS or promoted as Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-In-Stick said to have more improved and better color pay-off than the previous RVS series. More information of Oil-In-Stick can be checked out on the latest Sabrina post. Have you tried YSL RVS series before? What do you think about it? Comment below and for now I'll leave you with random doodles when I was playing around with other RVS shades at YSL counter. Hope you'll enjoy it!
